He must have had the call from Al. I am sure he will not miss Mr. Davis.:nono:

Hey, Kid,

What's up with Kiffin trying a 76 yard field goal?! :pound:Here is the way I think it went down.

During the Buffalo game the week before the Raiders had the ball outside of FG range with two timeouts. Kiffin didn't use the TO's and the clock ran out without being able to try a FG. So allegedly at the airport Al asks Kiffin ``what happened with the two time outs? We could have tried to get 10-15 yards and then let Janikowski try a long FG" (55-60 range).

Now fast forward to the end of the first half Sunday against the Chargers. Kiffin, instead of trying to get some more yards and then calling his last TO and try a reasonable FG in the 55 yard or so range he decided to send Jano in and try a 76 yard FG. This is on third down mind you. Clearly this was a FU to Davis...kinda like ``you want to try a long FG...OK here you go".

While I was a Kiffin fan he clearly was defiant and trying to get fired. Say what you want. Think what you want but everything he did the last two months points to complete insubordination. Raking the DC over the coals in the media. Saying he never talked to Davis since before the Monday night opener with the Broncos. Denying he received the letter Davis read to the press when it was clearly sent via Fedex to Kiffin the Friday before the KC game. Telling the press he had no knowledge or input with regard to the FA signings of Javon Walker and DeAngelo Hall. According to Davis' PC Kiffin was in the loop and wanted to bring those two in. Davis said the only FA he wasn't consulted on was Gibril Wilson the safety from the NY Giants.

Bad news. Anyway in the end it's best they parted ways. It jsut wan't going to work. I'm not a fan of how Davis did it. I think considering the deterioration of their relationship that Davis should have just fired him, paid his 1 1/2 year salary remaining and moved on. This airing of the dirty laundry while it might be effective in the termination for cause didn't do anything to enhance the Raiders organization. People are like sheep. They regurgitate whatever they hear in the media about Davis and try and come off like they are all knowing. Bottom line is nobody knows what goes on in Alameda.

In the end I think this will fade away fairly quickly once the media tires of rehashing the situation. Apparently they will file a grivance with the league but it seems that if Davis has all the T's crossed and I's dotted as it appears it will be tough for anybody to arbitrate this in Kiffin favor because of the language in the contract and Al Davis' "warning letter"...

Good post Kid. I saw the highlights and I'm like 76 yards? :wtf1: Janakowski gave it go, though. The ball was caught on the 3-yard line so his kick was probably good for a 56-57 yarder at least.

FYI, there have only been five field goals of 60 or more yards.

Longest field goals, all time:

63 Jason Elam, Denver vs. Jacksonville, Oct. 25, 1998

62 Matt Bryant, Tampa Bay vs. Philadelphia, Oct. 22, 2006

60 Steve Cox, Cleveland vs. Cincinnati, Oct. 21, 1984

60 Morten Andersen, New Orleans vs. Chicago, Oct. 27, 1991

FYI Janikowski's long is 56 yards so I don't know WTF Kiffin was thinking. Kicking 60+ yard FG in practice is one thing but it's different than doing under game conditions. It was a bullshit call if you ask me. Way too many things could have gone wrong. The kick could have been blocked and the Chargers could have scored that way or the return guy for San Diego, Antonio Cromartie who is a very dangerous return guy, could have run that damn thing back.

Oh well...water under the bridge. Kiffin is gone. Fuck him.

Long Live the Tom Cable ERA. :p

Janikowski did have a 64 yard attempt in '07 that had more than plenty of distance but hit the upright. From the video it looks like it could have been good from 68-70 yards.

Like I said his long FG made is 56 yards. Ones that hit the upright and bounce out don't count. In any case that is a long cry from 76 yards. Stupid call and clearly a FU to Al Davis as I pointed out above. Just my opinion of course.

Come on Kid, that 64 yard attempt didn't impress you? I was impressed. He was this close, just a few inches to the left and Janikowski makes NFL history. It would be different if it fell 10 yards short. But I digress. A 76 yard FG is probably physically impossible for any kicker.

If Al Davis were to die or step down who would take over. Is any of Davis's family involved in running the Raiders?

SF Kid

His son is involved although he isn't a football guy. That could work because he'd be forced to hire football people and give them control of the football operations

Now the bad news. Al Davis will be 80 this next 4th of July. His mother lived to be 103. :wtf1:

You would find a lot of people under that bus including the SF Kid! However you can always find the Bear roaming the 49ers sideline!:)
