The trade deadline is two weeks away. What would you be doing if you were the Giants GM?

This is what the Bear would be doing. I would be looking to unload all players over the age of 35 and would stock pile position player prospects in return. This is easier said than done, but none the less its neccessary. Gone would be
Keiichi Yabu, Rich Aurilia, Ray Durham, Omar Vizquel. I would also move Randy Winn & Barry Zito if I could find a deal. We need to get these guys off the Roster now if for no other reason to make roster roome for youth. I also would not have a player on the 40 man roster over the age of 30 if he was not a starter for the Big club. This is a team where youth must be served.

Now what are your thoughts. What shape do you see the roster taking in 2009? What players do you think the Giants have a chance to get and please do not say stupid things like A-Rod. Lets try to be sane in are approach.

Start with the players that may have some actual value to other teams. Winn and perhaps Durham. No team is going to want Vizquel or Zito so we are stuck with them. One intriguing FA is Mark Teixeira. He will be only 29 years old next April so he is in his prime seasons. However, Scott Boras is his agent so he will be very expensive.

Mc, would you pay the BIG money for Mark Teixeira, and do you think he is the type of player you would want to build your club around. I am not sure he can carry a club to the promise land, and for the money he will want he needs to be that kind of player.

It's depends on what you mean by BIG money? If Tex asks for $15-$17 million, he's not worth that kind of money. Only Albert Pujols and A-Rod, and perhaps David Wright and Miguel Cabrera in the future are worth that kind of money. I agree if the Giants spend that kind of money they better spend it on a true superstar.

I would bet he will get between 13 & 15 MIL. At that price I would not pay it.

Yet, Rowand is getting $12 million per year from the Giants and Teixeira is a far better hitter and a Gold Glove first baseman.

Ask me if I would pay Rowand that amount of money? Not a chance in Hell! :nono:
