Who would have thought the Giants would have three pitchers in the top ten in strikeouts at this point in the season? These are the guys you build a team around. Not Zito!

Lincecum 103 SO - 2nd in NL

Cain 93 SO - 5th in NL

Sanchez 88 SO - 9th in NL

I'm not that surprised. All three has big time fastballs. I'm crossing my fingers that these three youngsters can develop into a fierce some triple threat. Can you imagine if we still had Francisco Liriano?! I hate you Brian Sabean.

And he got his 7th win to go 7-4 with an ERA of 3.98. I am hoping for 13 to 15 wins for Sanchez this season. :beerbang:

That would be great. Sanchez has really developed and he's still only 25 years old. He has a nice future ahead of him. :beerbang:

Two more arms for the rotation and one for the pen, and I think we are set on the pitching side of things for a long while.:)

For sure. The Giants still need to work on the hitting, though.

Big time. I think when the Giants leave Cleveland Omar can kiss his starting days good bye. I love Omar, but this team can't hide his bat.:(

Liriano with an 0-3 record, 11.32 ERA, and on the DL again this year. He had that one great year we all hated Sabean for, but has been hurt ever since. We could have Boof Bonser still too.

We could have lot of good players we have traded, but thats looking back with 20/20 vision. We need to look forward, and move forward with vision, and a plan.

A plan? What's that?

We need a "Ask Brain Sabean" thread. :pound:

Whose to say if he would have stayed with the Giants that he would have gotten hurt? Liriano had incredible stuff. Many scouts said his stuff was better than Johan Santana's stuff. The 2006 version of Liriano is probably gone forever but he was simply nasty.

Yep the SP is coming through, well for the most part. So what's it going to take to pry free a HUGE bat from one of the "we give up" teams to really bolster up the run support and get some more wins???

Welcome seanyt.

That's a good question. The other question is do the Giants want to rent a player now or just wait until the off season and get somebody for the long term.

I am all for getting a BIG bat for the line-up as long as it is not a rent a player. This team needs to be building long term, and not for just this year. If we can make a trade, and sign that player long term I am in , if not forget it!

One way to bulster run support is to bench Omar and use him for late inning defense. He could not buy a hit today (Sunday). Nothing out of the infield. I feel bad for him, but he has to know that his days are numbered with a batting average near a Buck Fifty.

Mark Teixeira is a free agent after the '08 season. He'll only be 29 next April. He's exactly the kind of FA the Giants should go after. But he will be expensive. His agent is Scott Boras which means Boras will try to convince the Giants that Teixeira is the greatest first baseman since Lou Gehrig and Jimmie Foxx.

I could not agree more. Omar is one of my favorite players, but it is time for him to be a role player, and to think about life after baseball. :(

This is Boras's job. But I am not sure the Giants need to go after Teixeira. He is a fine player, but what about Bowker? Sure Bowker may not be as good, but how good is he? For a rookie he is having a good season.

Bowker is nice young player. I'm not sure his upside is high, though. I guess it depends on what the Giants want. If they want a "big bat" I'm not sure Bowker is the guy. If they want a solid guy he may fit the bill. There is nothing in his minor league record to suggest he will be a star player. His K/BB ratio in the minors was 2.72 K/BB. That's not good. I don't understand these modern hitters. What do they teach them in high school and college ball  ? Here are some Bowker seasons in the minors.

2005: 36 BB 108 K
2006: 37 BB 100 K
2007: 41 BB 103 K
